What Makes an Intelligent Community?

The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) says intelligent communities are “those which have – whether through crisis or foresight – come to understand the enormous challenges of the Broadband Economy, and have taken conscious steps to create an economy capable of prospering in it.”  Sarnia-Lambton is an Intelligent Community.

The ICF uses six key indicators to measure a community’s collective intelligence:  access to broadband, knowledge workforce, innovation, digital equality, sustainability, and advocacy.

Over the next few weeks, follow the Smart Stories section of our website for detailed accounts of how our community is using information and communications technology, and pairing it with innovative thinking, in order to help create inclusive prosperity, tackle social and governance challenges, and enrich our quality of life.

Follow along as we explore how our community excels in each of these six areas, including a story next week on how access to broadband has been expanded to both residential and business customers in rural areas of Lambton County.
